kay and I had taken the boat out for a joy ride and a little tubing with some people. The day was excellent, sun was shinning, we had the Bimini top covering some of the boat for shade, and not even a slight breeze could ruin this morning. We took the boat out around the lake and watched the sun rise to greet us on the far side. We happily ate some premade breakfast sandwiches that where still warm and had some milk jugs on the side. Light conversation occured while eating our breakfast and enjoying the glassy water lake. No one was out on the lake before us and you could see some people just arriving offshore.
We finished up our breakfast and to our joy started the boat, threw the tube into the lake and I procliamed, "who's up first?". We got an uproar of chants and finally someone just jumped on the tube and said, "throw me a life vest!" we got three on the tube, tighted the cord that connected them to the boat and let the boat jolt forward. It was a funny sight to see and hear exlamations of "I don't want anything rough" or "take it easy will yah?" They all knew it wasn't going to be easy. I started by making some S turns and then turned and made an eight. It was quite fun to see them bouncing up and down and flying off with their rear ends in the air.
We continued this for hours, getting new comers on the boat and seeing their terrified faces, it was just one great experience. I myself road the single man tube for a while and enjoyed rolling and flying off into the water.
It wasn't till the afternoon that things started to get strange. we had the single man tube out letting someone tumble behind us. I remember looking back to enjoy the person fly off of one of the waves I created when i felt a splash of water hit my face... it was like someone had grabbed a cooler and sent it hurdling my way. I wiped my face off and opened my eyes to see a huge wave hurdling my way. It must have been 5 times as high as the boat was like a deep dark blue void heading straight for us. I taken back for a moment saw it happen in slow motion. I remember gunning the throttle and heading straight for it like the movies. We crested the top of the wave just to get to the top and notice we where in for it big. Wave after wave was there as we looked of to the distance, a lighting strike hit the moutains in front of us in the distance, and then we started flying down the wave. Just then I remember our loan amigo in the single tube. a clash of the lighting a little distance away was so loud I thought the lake had shooken. thats when time started to fast foward and everything started happening so fast. I turned the boat so that I was inbetween the waves and sped as fast as I could to the right. right when the wave started pushing us I turned the boat towards the wave and screamed up the side of it going sideways. It was a blurr after that, I thought we where a gonner. I remember thinking about the single tuber...and then it was over. We where in light blue water, the sun was shinning, and the water was glassy. I looked behind us to notice the tube was till attached and the tuber waving at me to stop. Right behind the tuber was a huge circular storm with waves crashing down next to him.
I decided to head a little ways away and then let the tuber off. everyone was silent as I slowed down the boat and asked everyone to pull in the tuber. I had figured we had traveled 5 mins after the last huge wave and we felt like it was 2 secs. we pulled in the tuber, the huge storm mins away. and then sped towards shore. I let everyone out of the boat, we got the trailer and truck to the boat, took the girl out and spead a short distance to a high level. We all spent the next hour in a daze of the storm heading over us with the huge waves, the loud strikes of lighting, and the pitter patter of rain.
